Don't fireworks cause a great number of injuries and fires each season?

Actually, through consumer education and continuing improvement in the fireworks items themselves, the number of both fires and injuries attributed to legal fireworks has continuously declined over the last decade.

Problems generally only arise when fireworks are misused, or when fireworks are handled with a basic lack of common sense. When people abuse fireworks, don't follow directions, or don't adhere to basic safety guidelines, bad things can happen. While statistics highlight the occurrence of firework related injuries or fires, the majority are caused by people not reading and following directions or experimenting with homemade or bootleg fireworks.

In an effort to cut down the opportunities for bad things to happen, the Texas Pyrotechnic Association and other fire service associations have combined efforts to raise safety awareness and teach people how to enjoy fireworks safely.
